The fire - which was quickly contained - broke out at The Springhill building around 7.30am and led to the evacuation of the building
The fire service were not alerted as the fire was managed locally and no-one was injured in the incident
This is the third fire at the East Cork facility in a month - one worker sustained serious burns in a titanium fire on the roof of one of the US med-tech companies buildings in Carrigtwohill last month and follows workers concerns about health and safety at the plant
SIPTU has so far been unable to secure a meeting with management on workers concerns and is now seeking an inperson meeting with Minister Simon Coveney
It was raised in the Dail this lunchtime with the Tanaiste Micheal Martin and he says he will raise the matter about union representation and meetings with Minister Coveney
"That fire this morning, will I take it be referred to the Health and Safety Authority and there is an absolute prerequisite that there would be a comprehensive health and safety investigations. In respect of the question of union representation and meetings, I will talk to Minister Coveney about that. There has never been an issued in meeting with trade unions which we do on a regular basis in discharging our duties as Government ministers so I will talk to the Minister about that"
