The victim of an alleged assault in the city, a man in his 40s, is still in critical condition in Cork University Hospital this evening.
He was found with an apparent head injury after reports of a disturbance at Lower Glanmire Road on Thursday night.
A second man who was arrested relating to the case, is in his late 30s and has been released from Gurranbraher Garda station without charge.
A woman in her late 20s, who had been arrested was also released without charge, and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The first man arrested, also in his late 20s, has been charged in relation to the assault and appeared before the Criminal Courts of Justice this morning.
Gardaí at Mayfield Station are continuing to appeal for witnesses to come forward and for those with camera footage to make it available to them.
