The Irish Blood Transfusion Service in Cork is urgently asking for regular donors to donate blood.
It comes as a pre-amber alert has been issued due to concerns over a shortage of blood.
Donors with O negative, A negative, B negative and A positive are asked to make contact with the service.
The pre-amber alert has been issued to all hospitals in line with the national blood shortage plan, which requests the conservative use of blood from these groups.
Speaking to RedFM News, Donor Services Manager from the Irish Blood Transfusion Service, Julliane Kelly, says extra clinics have been arranged to assist with the shortage.
"We're appealing in particular to donors with O-, A-, B- and A+ blood - thehese are the blood groups that are suffering at the moment and have a very low supply.
"O- blood has just two days stuck, A- is 3.5 days, B- we just have 1.9 days and A+ is 3.6 days.
"We are appealing particularly to any of our regular blood donors who have those blood groups and who receive a text to make a special effort to attend their local clinics."
