A rural community organisation in North Cork is appealing to the public to donate essential items for Ukrainian refugees.
Around 46 refugees - mainly women and children - arrived at an indoor Astro Turf facility in Banteer on Saturday.
Cork County Council has confirmed that those who fell sick at the centre yesterday are now 'doing well.'
Development Officer with IRD Duhallow, Louise Bourke told RedFM News that several hundred more Ukrainian refugees will be arriving in to Milstreet during the week.
She said that there is an urgent need for donations of duvets, pillows, blankets, clothes and toys:
Speaking to RedFM News, Louise said that all donations are being sorted at the James O'Keeffe Institute in Newmarket, where people can also volunteer their time:
"So what we're looking for is clothes of all sizes. If people do want to donate new items, underwear is something that can only be donated new, but it's something that's badly needed. Dressing gowns are something that we're really looking for. Warm duvets and blankets. And then essential things babies bottles. What we're asking is that people don't donate food but that special purpose items like that. And people that are looking to donate, can donate to the James O'Keeffe Facility, or indeed the St. Vincent de Paul in Kanturk is also doing donations".
Those interested in offering donations or volunteering can contact IRD Duhallow on 029 60633 during business hours, or at helen.osullivan @ ird duhallow . com outside of that time.
