Most of the late night venues in Cork were not open for dancing last night, as the government's new Covid-19 guidelines came into operation.
That's according to the Chairperson of Cork City and County Vintners' Federation, Michael O'Donovan.
New guidelines, introduced this week, included several measures, such as social distancing in queues for the bar, and the requirement to digitally book a ticket one hour in advance of entering the venue.
Michael O'Donovan told RedFM News that it's too soon to know if venue owners can work under the new guidelines:
"Most of the publicans here in Cork that do operate late night venues, operated with just live music last night. They didn't have dancing. Few of the nightclubs; they would have had ticketing systems in place. They did operate their nightclubs last night under the new guidelines but having spoken to some of them everything seemed to go off without a hitch last night. Traditionally, this weekend would normally be a quiet weekend, the weekend after jazz weekend. It's quite difficult having to sell tickets and until, I suppose, we see it in practice for a weekend or two, we're just not sure how this is going to work."
