A "Christmas bombshelll" is how the proposed loss of hundreds of jobs at VMware in Ballincollig has been described
It emerged yesterday that up to 360 redundancies could be sought at the firm which has been operating in the town since 2005
Over 1,000 people are employed by VMware which was recently acquired by global tech giant Broadcom
The Taoiseach says Vmware has assured the Government that the company will seek to avoid the level of proposed redundancies where possible
Con Nagle of Ballincollig Business Association told the Neil Prendeville Show that while it's a blow the workers are highly skilled and will be in demand
"All of us whole heartedly sympathise with anybody on losing their job but these are probably the most qualified people ever to be made redundant. I put money that within one month of them leaving VMware three hundred of the three hundred and sixty will be working elsewhere, their skills set will be in massive demand"
