The Irish Examiner reports a number of local councillors have asked County Hall to push the event back until the end of this month.
Councillor Frank Roche from Castletownroche said he was concerned turning on the lights tomorrow could put some families under extra financial strain, while Mayor of the County Cllr Mary Linehan-Foley said the event was a show of solidarity that would lighten the mood.
Councillors pushed for a vote on the matter, however it wasn't needed as the majority of councillors were in support of turning the lights on tomorrow.
Lights will be turned on in 23 towns across the county and people are being encouraged to turn their own Christmas lights on at 7pm tomorrow.
