Public health authorities in both Cork and Kerry have contacted college students in the wake of a major increase in the rate of sexually transmitted infections.
They're warning chlamydia rates have increased by 42 per cent since 2019 among people aged between 19 and 24.
While rates of gonorrhoea have gone up by 77 per cent over the same period, according to the statement published in the Irish Examiner.
The Department has also contacted both UCC and MTU's Students' Unions, urging the student representative bodies to raise awareness of preventative measures people can take.
