Water restrictions could be introduced in parts of Cork next week if water consumption does not fall significantly.
That's according to Neil Smyth, the Asset Operations Lead at Irish Water.
Demand for drinking water has increased by up to 25% on many supplies across Cork.
Water source levels are dropping as the hot conditions are set to continue today with temperatures again expected to top 30 degrees in parts.
Yesterday was the warmest day of the year so far, with a high of 30.8 degrees recorded at Mount Dillon in Co Roscommon.
A number of schemes in the west and north of the county are under pressure.
Neil Smyth from Irish Water told RedFM news they are appealing to people conserve water.
"It's possible that next week or beyond we'll have to carry out interventions like night time restrictions or perhaps tankering.
"It's just to make everyone aware of the difficulties when so much water is being consumed.
"We're doing everything we can on the supply side, but on the usage side if people in their homes and in their business could reduce their water consumption as far as possible."
