A refuge in West Cork for victims of domestic abuse could be moving a step closer

The West Cork Beacon support group are currently examining potential sites for a refuge that would have the capacity to house five families

Funding has been allocated to the group, which supports women experiencing domestic abuse or sexual violence, for the building and staffing costs

Marie Mulholland from West Cork Beacon told RedFM News the proposed refuge would include offices and therapy rooms

"What we will be getting is a refuge that is big enough to support five families at a time, in small, independent apartments that all be on the one site. There will also be office accommodation for staff and therapy rooms. It's quite big in that sense, in that it's a whole orchestra of supports that would be available on site along with the refuge"
