Management at the Aperee Living nursing home told the 50 residents in August that the nursing home would be closing in six months which prompted protests locally
Families who were frantically trying to secure alternative accommodation for their loved ones have now been informed that the home will close on October 24th next
Independent TD Michael Collins has likened the situation the residents face to an "eviction" and says they are effectively being made homeless
Speaking to RedFM News he says he will be raising the matter with the Taoiseach tomorrow
"We're long enough talking about a housing crisis here, but this is a serious crisis for the residents, and there's over 30 residents still inside Belgooly nursing home that are facing practically eviction in the next two to three weeks,. The Minister needs to intervene here, she cannot be asleep at the wheel on this issue. The HSE most take over the running of this nursing home they cannot kick people out on the side of the road and that's what people are facing."
