The President has signed the bill on sealing the records for 30 years but his action paves the way for any citizen to challenge the bill.
A West Cork TD has welcomed the move by President Michael D Higgins to sign a new bill on the sealing of records on Mother and baby homes for 30 years as it allows any citizen to challenge the provision of the bill in the future .
Some files pertaining to the commission investigating the homes will be sealed for that length of time under legislation from 2004.
The new bill will see a database transferred to Tusla, which survivors will be able to access.
Over 150,000 people have signed a petition to Unseal the Archives and the President says while he noted their concerns, the Bill itself does not directly raise a constitutional issue.
Speaking to RedFM News West Cork TD Holly Cairns says the people have spoken and this matter will not just go away
