Patricia McCarthy says she was admitted to the hospital on New Year's Day at 7am with a clot in her lung and is still being treated at the hospital after getting a bed in a ward after almost two and half days.
Patricia praised the staff working in the ED and says her complaint is with hospital management and the Government.
Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork's RedFM, Patricia detailed one of the scenes she witnessed:
In a statement to RedFM News, a spokesperson for the hospital said:
Cork University Hospital (CUH) does not comment on individual cases.
However, CUH is experiencing very high levels of demand for services and is currently operating at maximum capacity. Regrettably while patients presenting at the hospital are experiencing long delays, urgent patients will always be prioritised for treatment and care.
Patients are advised and encouraged to consider all other care pathways, including pharmacies, GPs, GP out of hours services and minor injury units before presenting at the hospital.
