Rachel McElroy was speaking outside a sitting of the Central Criminal Court in the city today after her attacker was jailed for 6 years.
Bagrat Kudzievi of Albert Road, Cork City was previously convicted of two counts of sexual assault of Rachel McElroy- who was 18 at the time- on the 19th of October 2019.
Ms Justice Tara Burns said the assault was “every young woman’s nightmare” and was “extremely serious”.
The court heard the victim had dropped out of college and struggled with feeling empty and lost but has started her road to recovery.
Speaking to RedFM News outside Anglesea Street Courthouse, Rachel says she’s disappointed that the people who filmed the incident didn’t help her:
"The girls that recorded- I found that very disrespectful, like if that was their daughter, they would have been gone to their doors, you know. I just, I was really disgusted in that. And I didn't find out until the last minute either. When I found out- it was a very disrespectful thing to do like. They could have helped, they could have pulled us apart or anything, but they would have rather take a video and put it all over social media. It is very disrespectful. Like if that was their daughter. They would have been so angry."
