A multi agency response involving the Coastguard, the rescue helicopter and the RNLI came to the assistance of three paddleboarders off Youghal's Front Strand yesterday evening
The alarm was raised by local lifeguards shortly after 5pm after they spotted the casualties and alerted the Irish Coast Guard.
Weather conditions at the time were choppy with a strong north westerly offshore breeze.
The Youghal Inshore Lifeboat was launched and arrived on scene within 10 minutes and brought the paddleboarders safely back to shore where they received medical treatment
Speaking after today’s call out, John Innes, Youghal RNLI Launch Authority said: ‘This call out was a multi-agency rescue with our colleagues from Rescue 117 in Waterford, the Guards, National Ambulance Service, Youghal lifeguards and Youghal Coast Guard unit all in attendance. It was a great response, and we would like to thank everyone involved and we wish the casualties well.
'With the weather getting warmer and more inviting, we want to remind people of the importance of always going prepared for you activity including wearing a suitable flotation device such as buoyancy aids as these casualties did, as the weather can be very changeable. Should you get into difficulty or spot someone else in trouble, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.’
