Like many other women, she describes how she carries out a "risk assessment" before doing the most mundane of tasks such as going to the shop or going for a walk.
Una Ring was speaking out after the Justice Minister contacted her to relay the news that tough new legislation on stalking and non-fatal strangulation could be passed into law before the end of the Summer
Una teamed up with Eve McDowell from Galway - after they were both subjected to horrific stalking campaigns by men they barely knew - to lead a campaign for the new stand alone stalking offence
She says the brutal murder last week of Ashling Murphy in broad daylight was an eye opener for many men who have no idea how women worry before going for a run, an evening walk or even shopping
Speaking to RedFM News Una says she adopts a cautious approach to her safety like countless other women:
"I was even talking to my partner there the other night about it and like I said, I said, What do you do when you go to the shop? He said I just go to the shop. I said, I do a risk assessment before I leave the house. Going from the house to the car. When I get there I always Park with the driver door near the shop door. I said I would wait and I will look around and I will check that there's nobody hanging around. I will hold my keys in my hand while I'm going from the car to the shop and the same on the way back. I said there's no such thing for me just going to the shop."
