Youghal Chamber of Tourism and Development say they are always working on ways to make the town more attractive to new business and tourism.
The town has had one of the highest commercial vacancy rates in Cork over the past few years, however the opening of the new boardwalk between Claycastle Beach and Redbarn Beach in 2021 and the annual Ironman event are proving very successful.
The Ironman alone brought around 10,000 athletes and onlookers to Youghal last year, with over €10 million generated for the local economy.
A shortage of accommodation for Ironman athletes and tourists in the town made the headlines last year after two of the town’s three hotels were transformed into accommodation for people fleeing the war in Ukraine.
Speaking to RedFM News, member of Youghal Chamber of Tourism and Development and local florist Kay Curtain says businesses are always looking at ways to improve the town offering:
"Thinking outside the box really all the time you know and like that goes for businesses as well like you know, We have The Iron Man here in August and we had one meeting already about it, so all the traders they just get together and just discuss, obviously there are small problems, big problems and we just sit down and talk. Accommodation would have been a big, big problem but the people around have opened their doors and I've taken in somebody myself."
