A young Cork father says living in emergency accommodation for almost two years was a massive struggle that almost broke him.
31 year old Jonathan O'Mahony from Cobh moved into his new home at Cascade Apartments in Carrigtwohill on St Patrick's Day and says it has totally changed his life.
The young man who works in the area was speaking at the official ribbon cutting at the apartment complex which contains 95 two-bed social housing units that were delivered by Co-Operative Housing Ireland.
Speaking to RedFM News, Jonathan says he went through a dark time while he was homeless but is in a much better place now:
"I feel the pain of people that are stuck inside of emergency accommodation. To be in a place and not having anywhere to go. Not being able to rent. Not seeing any way out of it. That's what it was - it was tough. I have another daughter who's three, she's almost four - and those two years, I couldn't have her stay over with me or anything. It was it was very difficult. It was fantastic, a couple of weeks ago then, she was down there and she had her first sleepover and you know, I have my other small baby here and it's fantastic".
