A Cork based Youth Mentor and Co-ordinator at Cork Migrant Centre says we can do better in relation to the supports being provided to migrants coming to Ireland
Raphael Olympio was commenting as up to 100 tents belonging to migrants are now pitched along Dublin's Grand Canal
The encampment comes less than a week after a similar camp for asylum seekers was dismantled in the area
Cork is the location for a Youth Led Anti Racist Summit tomorrow which aims to empower young voices to drive change and foster inclusivity
One of the summit speakers Raphael Olympio told RedFM News he believes the housing crisis has led to a rise in tensions:
"I feel like a lot of the tension and anger or frustration has been misdirected towards the migrants, so I feel it's not the best we can do to see migrants on the streets in tents, it's heartbreaking We can all point fingers but I feel like we all have a part to play the call it out and all take accountability for what's going on".
