Cork’s newest bridge will be lifted into place tonight.

The 46 metre long bridge over the N40 will provide connectivity between Grange and Frankfield and the southern suburbs, and will allow direct access to Tramore Valley Park.

The project is set to be complete by the autumn when the bridge and pathway will be available for use.

The N40 will be fully closed from Junction 10 Mahon to the Kinsale Road Roundabout from 9.30pm tonight to 6am tomorrow to facilitiate the installation of the bridge, and diversions will be in place.

Suggestions for the naming of the new bridge can be made on consult.corkcity.ie by Friday April 28th.

Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Deirdre Forde said: “It will be fantastic to see Cork’s newest bridge in place on Friday morning. It means we are moving a step closer to the completion of a project that will mean people can walk or cycle for leisure, work or to get to school or college from Grange/Frankfield to Tramore Valley Park, Douglas and on into the city centre”.

“We also need your help in putting forward suggestions for the naming of the new bridge. Suggested names which honour, celebrate, or remember a person, group or events of significance that have helped to shape the City of Cork will be considered,” she said.

Completed application forms can be submitted on https://consult.corkcity.ie. Alternatively, they can be sent in an envelope marked “Grange to Tramore Valley Park Bridge Naming” to Barbara Creed, Administrative Officer, Infrastructure Development, City Hall, Cork, T12 T997 or e-mailed directly to [email protected]. The closing date for submissions is Friday 28th April 2023 at 4.00 p.m.
