221 People Being Treated For Covid-19 In Irish Hospitals This Morning

It's the highest figure since May and is a 47% increase compared with this day last week.

It comes as debate continues over the possibility of using a circuit breaker to curb the spread of the disease, which is a short, hard lockdown.

Almost 300 cases of Covid have been confirmed in Cork since Saturday.

The latest figures show there were 16 confirmed cases of Covid at Cork University Hospital last night and 5 cases at the Mercy University Hospital

Infectious diseases expert, Paddy Mallon, says the lockdown has to be done correctly or it won’t work.
