New figures show just 33 out of 4,000 staff at Cork University Hospital have contracted Covid-19.

The figures from the hospital's Occupational Health Department show an extremely low level of staff infection, something a Professor of Infectious Disease at CUH says is down to the leadership at CUH and the ongoing training in the use of PPE.

Front line medical staff have been disproportionately impacted by the virus in Ireland, with 4,180 cases associated with healthcare workers out of a total of just over 16,000.

The INMO are meeting the Health Minister today after the HSE said nurses account for almost one in ten coronavirus cases.

Speaking to RedFM News Professor Mary Horgan from the Infectious Disease clinic at CUH says the low number of infections among staff at CUH is a credit to management and staff.

"There has been ongoing training in the use of protective equipment for all of us that are on the frontline.

"Sometimes the gear changes, but with that comes new training, so I think the leadership the management has shown has made a huge difference."
