3,726 is the highest number of new cases since the 14th of January.
Health Minister Stephen Donnelly confirmed the news in the Dáil during a debate on the extension of emergency Government Covid powers.
That includes mask wearing, hospitality rules and the ability to restrict the movement of people.
Minister Donnelly says they're needed given the current situation:
"Voting against an extension of these powers for three months, given the current situation is reckless. Leas-Cheann Comhairle, I'd like to say why; this evening the number of cases that will be announced will be in excess of 3,700. We know that we have a very significant increase in cases across all age groups. Indeed, the case prevalence we're looking at at the moment is higher than at any point than at the very highest peak in January."
