A Cork-Based Teacher Says The Leaving Cert Class Of 2021 Face A Lot Of Uncertainty Due To Covid-19

She says students could be at a disadvantage

Round 1 of CAO offers came out yesterday afternoon with an expected jump in points for third-level courses following the record-high Leaving Cert results earlier in the week.

Approximately 75% of degree and Level 8 courses saw a rise in point requirements, with a jump also recorded for 60% of Level 6 and 7 courses.

Here in Cork, Dentistry at University College Cork saw a jump of 23 points, with Medicine rising slightly by 2 points.

Across Ireland, over half of those who applied for a degree level course through the CAO system were offered their first preference.

The attention now turns to the returning 6th year students who have not been in class since March.
