A Corkman Who Is Stranded In Peru With His Girlfriend Due To The Covid-19 Pandemic Says Spirits Remain High Amongst Fellow Travellers

They are hopeful for good news from the Irish Embassy later today

The South American country is on lockdown under martial law due to the coronavirus crisis.

Andrew Cotter from Mitchelstown and his girlfriend Marie from Conna are among dozens of Irish citizens who have been stranded in lockdown due to the outbreak.

Yesterday, Tánaiste Simon Coveney appealed to the group of up to 60 citizens to remain calm and patient.

The group have had no direct correspondence from the Irish Embassy today as of yet, but the group remain hopeful that they will hear from them later this afternoon.

Speaking to RedFM News from Peru this afternoon, Andrew says the the hostel they are staying in have begun rationing food:
