Trinity College Dublin Associate Professor Tomás Ryan says this is because Omicron will still be spreading through our schools.
10,571 new cases of Covid-19 have been recorded, including 5,523 PCR tests and 5,048 positive antigen results.
Professor Tomás Ryan says by vaccinating more children it'll prevent the infection of others:
"Only a minority of them so far have been registered for vaccination. We really should be encouraging people to vaccinate as many children as possible, because then we reduce the risk of course those individual children, but we also then allow the schools to return to a more normal environment and of course, it helps to reduce transmission in society in general."
