Around 1,200,000 people are relying on state supports for all or part of their income.
The latest figures from the Department of Social Protection show nearly 600 thousand people are claiming the COVID-19 Unemployment Benefit.
Meanwhile, 52 thousand employers have signed up to the Temporary Wage Subsidy Scheme - with approximately 427 thousand workers receiving at least one payment.
Over a quarter of a million people under the age of 34 are claiming the unemployment benefit, and SpunOut CEO Ian Power says it's worrying.
"A lot of students who would have been in part time work perviously are currently out of work.
"A lot of people who would have planned to work over the summer to fund studies or other activities will be out of those jobs.
"Then there's lots of people for whom work is paying to support a family, and so just like any other age group they're as affected as everyone else is."
