They say the option to nominate a ‘Temporary Agent’ is proving very popular

An Post Update – Thursday 26th March 2020

·       The Government has listed Post Offices and the Postal Service as essential services. Post Offices continue to operate as normal, in some cases with restricted hours to ensure continuity of service and some flexibility for staff and Postmasters.

·       The majority of Post Offices will open at 8am tomorrow (Friday 27th March) for the convenience of older customers  collecting Social Welfare payments and to ensure optimal physical distancing for this group.

·       As bank branches close, Post Offices continue to provide essential community banking services though the An Post Money current account and other products, State Savings (including the Post Office Savings Bank) and cash lodgement and withdrawal services for AIB and Ulster Bank customers.

  • The option available to customers impacted by Covid-19 to nominate a ‘Temporary Agent’ to act on their behalf is proving very popular.  More than 12,000 such applications have already been approved.   Customers may apply by completing, in advance, a form available at post offices and online at anpost.com/tempagent.
  • Post Offices have introduced Physical Distancing and other practical measures to safeguard customers and staff, including floor signage and posters.
  • In the interest of everyone’s health and safety, we ask that where possible just the person with business to conduct enters the Post Office and that groups of children or friends wait outside.  We trust that customers will understand the need for this measure during the current Covid-19 crisis.
