An appeal has been made to members of the travelling community to follow social distancing advice at funerals

The call came from Fr Oscar O'Leary the chaplain to Cork’s Traveller community after almost 200 people attended a burial in Kilcully yesterday

A small number of the immediate family attended the Requiem Mass, sitting apart, however despite appeals from the family for people to stay away from the cemetery, up to 200 people attended the burial

Fr Oscar said the family, who have suffered a number of tragedies in recent weeks, had done their best to keep the numbers down as he appealed to people to follow the public health advice and the guidelines

Funeral masses are restricted to a maximum of 10 family members at this time, social distancing must be maintained and the numbers in cemeteries are limited

Speaking to RedFM News Green Party Cllr Oliver Moran, who chairs the city council’’s Traveller Accommodation Committee, says funerals are particularly difficult at the moment
