Calls for state pension to be increased

There are calls for the state pension to be increased to match the Covid-19 emergency payments.

No one over the age of 66 can claim the 350 euro a week payment - even if they're still in employment and have lost work.

Chairman of Wexford County Council, Michael Sheehan, says more needs to be done to support people in that situation

"Hundreds across the country will be in a situation where they will either worked in an office, or worked part time or worked for themselves, and they now find themselves without that income.

"And they see other welfare recipients receiving double payments which isn't normal."
