The Education Minister's being called on to clarify the criteria for students applying for SUSI grants for college next year.
The application process opens today however there are question marks if students in families with incomes affected by Covid-19 will be eligible.
Sinn Fein says the unprecedented situation means thousands of parents will now struggle to send children to third-level next year.
The party's education spokesperson, Cork TD Donnchadh O'Laoghaire, wants government to provide clarity for families.
"Ordinarily the SUSI giant is calculated on the previous year's income.
"It is possible on this year's form to apply for a change of circumstances, but that change of circumstances only applies if it is permanent, and for the foreseeable future.
"So for a lot of people who are in jobs that they are unsure if they will reopen or not, the situation is unclear."
