Childcare providers not sure how they can mind children of frontline workers

Childcare providers say they have no idea how they can take care of frontline workers' kids.

The National Public Health Emergency Team considered proposals for how support for the sector, but have not produced any proposals.

Last night, the Taoiseach indicated they are looking at asking carers enter the homes of healthcare workers to care for kids.

Regina Bushall is chairperson of Seas Suas, which represents early childcare providers - she says it has been frustrating.

"We have no idea how they actually envisage that happening at this stage.

"If they engage with us, then of course we can discuss it and see what solutions are there.

"Childcare professionals themselves who are out of work at the moment, and how they will respond to the call to support - and again, a number of them have their own challenges at the moment."
