Children who are close contacts of Covid-19 cases in schools could soon be able to avoid self-isolating if they don't have symptoms.

The Irish Times reports that health officials are considering the move due to increased pressure on the country's testing system.

14,000 children have been deemed close contacts since schools reopened.

Currently kids are currently required to stay at home for at least 10 days if they come in contact with a confirmed case.

"Other countries have successfully used antigen testing as part of their strategies.

"Other countries have used masks. I'm not saying use masks 100% for every kid in the school situation.

"If we have a healthcare worker who's been exposed, we can't keep them out for 10-14 days as we don't have the manpower."
