The Chief Medical Officer says he's encouraged by the country's 'positive trajectory' in the fight against Covid-19.
However Dr Tony Holohan has urged people to remain vigilant despite significant improvements in the profile of the disease.
The estimated 14 day incidence rate is now 152 - more than half of the peak on October 25th when the figure reached 309.
16 further deaths have been reported, while there has been 270 new cases including just 8 in Cork.
Dr Ray Walley is the Irish Medical Organisation's GP advisor to the HSE.
He says despite the progress being made; restrictions should not be lifted too early.
"What we know about Covid is that it is an extremely infectious organism. I think e need to continue in the path we are doing.
"If we are to look at our neighbours in Europe we see how in a blink the infection rate can go up if you open up too quickly.
"I think we should continue to apply the full length of time that was planned in regard to Level 5."
