CONFIRMED: 14 more deaths and 294 new Covid-19 cases in past 24 hours

The Department of Health have confirmed that there have been 14 more deaths in relation to Coronavirus in Ireland.

All 14 deaths were in the east of the country. The median age of these 14 deaths is 81 years of age. This brings the total number of deaths in the Republic of Ireland to 36.

There were also 294 new cases confirmed this evening which brings the total number of cases in Ireland to 2,415. The median age of the total cases is 46 years old. The Department of Health confirmed that 52% of the cases are related to community transmission and 70 people are now in intensive care units.

445 cases are associated with healthcare workers and Dublin has 56% of all cases.

In some good news, The Department of Health announced that 260 extra nurses and 63 extra doctors have been hired to fight the spread of the virus so far and more applications are being processed.

In Northern Ireland, 49 more coronavirus cases were confirmed today bringing the total number of cases there to 324. In the past 24 hours there have been two further deaths from the virus in the North, bringing the total number of deaths there to 15.

More than 1,000 people have died from Covid-19 in the UK.
