CONFIRMED: 9 New Cases Of Coronavirus In Ireland Today

9 new cases of Coronavirus have been confirmed in the Republic of Ireland.

Eight of the new cases are males and one is female.

Four of the new cases are male from the south of the country and associated with recent travel. The female case confirmed today is also from the south of the country. She had recent contact with an already confirmed case.

Another male from the south of Ireland has also been confirmed to have Coronavirus. He has had recent contact with a confirmed case.

Another three males from the east of the country are now infected with the virus. Two of these cases are associated with travel and the third male had contact with an already confirmed case of Covid-19.

This brings the total amount of cases in the Republic of Ireland to 43, up from 34 yesterday and 18 in Northern Ireland - a total of 61 cases on the island of Ireland.

An extra 250 more staff are to be added to the number conducting contact tracing.

The Department of Health have also advised people to consider how they can limit social interactions and avoid indoor, crowded spaces.

The news comes after the World Health Organisation officially declared the virus a pandemic earlier this afternoon.
