A senior civil servant has said there's "absolutely no truth" to the conspiracy theories that 5G masts are causing COVID-19.
There was a suspected arson attack on a mast in Letterkenny at the weekend which is believed to be linked to online fake news.
Some celebrities including Woody Harrelson have spread conspiracy theories about a link between 5G and Coronavirus.
But assistant secretary at the Department of the Taoiseach Liz Canavan says there's no basis to it.
"There is absolutely no truth in the link between Covid-19 and 5G, and this has been confirmed by the European Commission and the WHO, among others.
"You are urged to ignore misinformation circulating on social media, and not to spread it further.
"Reputable information about Covid-19 can be found from official sources, such as the Health Service Executive."
