The resumption of operations at Cork Airport is vital to employment in the Munster region, according to the Irish Travel Agents Association.

They say it's important the 14 day quarantine period is relaxed so inbound tourism can regenerate, and multinationals located here can continue travel between countries.

It follows advice by the Aviation Recovery Taskforce that the quarantine period for arrivals should be relaxed by next Wednesday as the country is now behind other European Union Member States when it comes to restoring air travel.

Speaking to RedFM News CEO of the Irish Travel Agents Association Pat Dawson says established routes into and out of Cork airport need to be protected.

"We've got to protect our European routes, our UK routes as well, and it's vital for economies because we have huge companies here in Cork, and the airport being local is vital for inbound tourism, it's vital for the many great companies we have in Cork, and of course that means employment."
