A Cork business man has praised the generosity of people Leeside following a successful appeal for rooms and cars for front line medical staff.
The National Public Health Emergency floated the idea of asking medical staff who live together to seek alternative accommodation after it was revealed that around a quarter of confirmed cases of covid-19 involve healthcare workers.
Pat Phelan who co-runs Sisu Aesthetic Clinic put out an appeal for rooms and apartments for medical staff on Twitter and has so far helped 11 people move into isolation.
He is also collaborating with GoCar to provide free rental cars for front line staff.
He told RedFM News that the response has been phenomenal.
"People are just doing amazing stuff, it's incredible.
"There's something very special about the Irish when we're going through a tough time, you know?
"We're nearly at the 300 cars out there now, Roosters Piri Piri gave me food for an A&E unit yesterday in the Mercy for 100 people.
"And the owner rang me last night, and something from Cork who is in the UAE had called the restaurant and insisted on paying for whatever today's food was."
