A Cork car dealership say the new car market could be down by up to 40% this year.

Blackwater motors say the COVID19 outbreak has had a devastating impact on the entire car sales industry.

The firm say used car imports could be down by up to 50% also.

Speaking to RedFM News Director of Blackwater Motors David Quirke says there's huge uncertainty at the moment, but that could change if they can reopen soon.

"People don't know when they're going to return to work, people don't know what way their finances are going to be, because I'm assuming at this stage if people have car loans and certainly mortgages then they've more than likely sought the three month moratorium on it.

"What we're hoping from a Blackwater Motors point of view and an Audi Cork point of view is we get back to some form of normality as soon as possible.

"Currently we're planning to open our after sales facilities from the 18th of May.

"We're available online, we'll provide the facilities to collect people's cars and deliver cars if needs be."
