A Cork campaigner says planning for the reopening of the cancer screening programme must be prioritised by the health service.
Stephen Teap, whose wife Irene died from cervical cancer, says he understands why programmes like BreastCheck, CervicalCheck and BowelScreen were halted due to Covid-19, and is now calling for a roadmap to plan for the resumption of services.
The Irish Cancer Society say it's essential that screening is returned to full capacity as soon as possible and the backlog in appointments is dealt with promptly and safely.
In a statement issued to RedFM News the HSE says the National Screening Service is developing separate roadmaps for the recommencement of BreastCheck, BowelScreen, CervicalCheck and Diabetic RetinaScreen.
A spokesperson says the restarting of screening will be based on HSE and Department of Health guidance on Covid-19 as measures to prevent Covid-19 are amended by Government.
