RedFM News has learned the doctor had been covering colleagues at a Cork hospital who are currently self isolating amid the Coronavirus outbreak.
The doctor, who wishes to remain anonymous, had just finished a 13 hour shift on Saturday March 14th when he discovered his bike had been stolen.
The bike, a TREK FX 3 DISC, was secured outside the hospital however when he went to retrieve it he discovered it had been stolen.
The doctor, who is in his 20s and relies on the bike for transportation to and from the hospital, had just finished his 14th shift in a row. He has another five shifts in a row to complete before he is due a break off the roster due to intense pressure on staff amid the outbreak of COVID-19.
It has been confirmed to RedFM News that the doctor is covering shifts for colleagues who are self-isolating because of the COVID-19 outbreak.
Meanwhile many frontline staff have spoken out to RedFM News anonymously about their frustration at witnessing people congregating in pubs on social media while they and other frontline staff put themselves at risk each day struggling to contain the spread of the Coronavirus which has claimed the life of two people in Ireland since it reached the country.
Today it was confirmed that 39 more people have tested positive for the virus.
129 people have now been confirmed to have covid-19 in the Republic, bringing the total on the island to 163.
