A young Cork doctor says returning home from Australia is a chance for him to give back to the country that trained him.
Dr David Herlihy from Mitchelstown has been working in emergency medicine in Melbourne since 2016 and is one of over 60,000 people to sign up to the HSE's 'be on call' recruitment drive.
The government appealed to healthcare workers from all disciplines who are not working in the Irish healthcare system to register ahead of a predicted spike in the number of people presenting with Covid-19.
Speaking to RedFM News from Melbourne as he prepared for the journey to Cork this morning, David says many people will be thinking of home at this time.
"All my family is back in Ireland, my fiancé is back in Ireland.
"I want to be able to come back to help out where I can, and I imagine that certainly plays a part for a lot of people.
"As well as that we've been given so much by the Irish healthcare system - we trained in Ireland for five years, we've all worked in Ireland for a time at least, and now is chance for us to give back as well."
