A District Court Judge has described practise of isolating new prisoners at Cork Prison for 14 days on arrival as 'bordering on unconstitutional'.
The Echo reports Judge Olan Kelleher made the remark when he was informed that a number of prisoners were unable to appear before the court via video link as they were in isolation.
Judge Kelleher said a prisoner on remand could not be held for more than a week when they are first remanded, however he also said he understood why new prisoners are being isolated and indicated that he would not try to change the practise.
