Cork Penny Dinners says some retail staff have become service users during the pandemic

A Cork homeless charity says some retail workers from various stores across the city have become service users in the wake of the COVID19 outbreak.

Retail on Leeside, particularly on Patrick St, has been hit hard as a result of the pandemic with many stores including Debenhams, Monsoon, Accessorize, Oasis and Clarks announcing their closure.

Cork Debenhams workers, who are continuing their protest since they lost their jobs without redundancy when the department store announced its closure, say they won't be seeking employment in retail in Cork when they start their search for new jobs as the future of retail on Leeside looks bleak.

Speaking to RedFM News Caitriona Twomey of Cork Penny Dinners says while there have been government supports throughout COVID19, it didn't match people's outgoings in many cases and people got into difficulty - press PLAY
