Aaron Wolfe from Coláiste Éamann Rís in the city was speaking ahead of the reopening of schools across the country tomorrow.
Teacher unions have warned that schools may be forced to stay closed due to the high number of staff out due to Covid and the lack of substitute teachers to fill in for them.
Around ten staff members at Coláiste Éamann Rís are currently self isolating which will result in some classes being cancelled tomorrow.
Speaking to RedFM News, principal Aaron Wolfe says remote learning would have been a better option given the circumstances:
"We will struggle to cover classes. Students will be in the building but what will realistically happen is students will have free class after free class after free class. And they will be sitting there with the window open in the cold and there will be no teaching and learning going on. You will reach more people by doing it online because the students who are out because they're close contact, they're going to be at home and they won't be taught- there is no provision to teach students at home while the main school is open."
