A Cork secondary school teacher is in self-isolation this afternoon after coming into close contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid-19.

Parents of students at Colaiste Chriost Ri on Capwell Road, Turners Cross were informed of the situation this afternoon.

While the teacher has not tested positive for the coronavirus, he or she has been sent home to self-isolate.

Colaiste Chriost Ri remains open this afternoon, and will stay open with "a heightened sense of hygiene."

Students from the secondary school had returned from a trip to Italy last month, however the students were not travelling in the region where the virus had been identified.

A statement issued by the school this afternoon says the HSE have not instructed them to close but are insisting that any pupils who exhibit symptoms of the coronavirus should remain at home in isolation for 14 days.
