The organiser say the decision was made following careful consideration of published guidance from the Government and public health authorities.

The Munster Agricultural Society say options to postpone the show until September were considered, but in light of recent advice from the Chief Medical Officer against mass gatherings, and continuing requirements for social distancing, limitations on unnecessary travel and other restrictions that are likely to continue for some months, the Society felt that it had no choice but to cancel.

The iconic Cork Summer Show is a key event on calendars throughout the region. Since the first show in 1806, it has grown to become a focal point for agriculture, food, business and family entertainment and has continuously evolved, reflecting ever-changing lifestyles.

This year’s show, planned for 20-21 June, was expected to welcome as many as 50,000 visitors each day to a wide range exhibits and events.

However, in the light the continuing situation with COVID-19, they say their overriding priority is to protect the health and well being of their members, exhibitors, those working at the show and the wider public,  a decision to cancel the event was deemed to be necessary.

The Munster Agricultural Society has published a cancellation policy, the key points are as follows:

1)    Tickets already purchased have already been refunded.
2)    Competition entry fees have been already been refunded or may be rolled over to 2021.
3)    Traders and sponsors can opt to receive full refunds or leave funds already committed with the Society to secure presence at next year’s show at the same rates. Refunds will be made by electronic funds transfer.
