There’s a warning the number of critical cases of the coronavirus needs to be kept low in order for us to manage the crisis.

2,910 people now have Covid-19 here and 54 people have lost their lives.

So far, 84 people have been admitted to the ICU and the majority are in the over 45 age bracket.

13 per cent of the critical cases have been aged between 25 and 45, according to the most recent figures.

Professor Phillip Nolan from the Modelling Advisory Group says ICU cases have to stay as low as possible.

"We are very carefully monitoring the number of new cases per day, the total number of new cases, and watching very carefully the number of people admitted to hospital and the amount of people admitted to intensive care.

"We really want to keep that number ow, we want to keep people well, and we want to keep people out of the acute healthcare system, for their own health and welfare."
