Dr Richard Bambury was speaking as efforts continue to contain the spread of coronavirus.
Over 60 staff were sent home from CUH as a precaution on Friday after a man in his 40s was diagnosed with Covid-19.
Visitor restrictions remain in place at hospitals across Cork City and County and a number of outpatient appointments cancelled, however chemotherapy, radiation, infusions, cystic fibrosis, endoscopy as well as dressing and warfarin clinics are going ahead as normal.
